Safety and guidelines
Cedar Mingle only works if the people on it are real and treat each other well. Here's how we check who's on the app, what we expect from everyone, and what happens when someone crosses a line.
Who gets in
- You need an active @cedarville.edu email to sign up, and you have to be 18 or older.
- Before your profile goes live, you take a selfie copying a pose we choose at random. It's compared with your profile photos, and anything unclear goes to a person on our team.
- Every photo is screened before anyone else sees it. Photos of someone else, group shots where we can't tell which one is you, and explicit images are removed.
- A checkmark on a profile means that person passed the selfie check.
What we expect
- Be yourself. Use your real first name, your own recent photos, and your real class year.
- Take no for an answer. If someone doesn't reply or unmatches, let it go.
- Keep it respectful. No harassment, threats, slurs, or sexual messages nobody asked for.
- No selling, promoting, or sending people to other accounts or sites.
- Don't share screenshots of someone's profile or messages to embarrass them.
Reporting and blocking
You can report or block someone from their profile or from your chat with them. They aren't told who reported them. Blocking removes them from your picks and ends any match, and they won't see you either.
What happens after a report
- Every report is read by a person on our team, along with the profile's full report history.
- When two different verified members report the same profile, it's hidden right away until that person verifies again.
- A third report suspends the account while we look into it.
- Only a person can ban an account. Software never makes that call on its own.
Meeting up
- Meet somewhere public on or near campus the first few times. The dining hall and coffee shops are good places to start.
- Tell a friend who you're meeting and where.
- Keep the conversation in the app until you're comfortable giving out your number or socials.
If you're in danger
Call 911 if you're in immediate danger. Campus safety and the university's Title IX office can also help with anything that happened on or around campus, whether or not it started on Cedar Mingle. You can reach us at [email protected], and we cooperate with law enforcement when they ask.
